Long ago, before the Obsidian mobile app was available, I had experimented with locating an Obsidian vault (folder and files) on Dropbox in the cloud, with files synced to my PC Dropbox folder. I did a quick test, in response to your post, to see what I could do with the TB web client and Obsidian. I (almost) never use TB web client for my own brains, only to look at others and I seldom use the iOS mobile TB either. I've included a screenshot of one way to represent Obsidian's example in TheBrain and attached the Obsidian Ah, using the web client makes it much harder, maybe impossible, to use Obsidian and TB in the way I do. TheBrain solves this with the Plex, which is semi-structured with a strong visual component that in my opinion is a superior representation of note structure. but that is just a fancy way of saying Table of Contents and is still hierarchical in nature. Obsidian tries to solve this by utilizing Maps of Content. Folders are structured and are inherently limiting because it assumes your knowledge fits neatly into a hierarchy. Obsidian is structured around folders, which affords you easy management of your files but not of your knowledge. Before TheBrain 12, I would've said Obsidian is hands down superior because of the wiki-like backlinks and unlinked mentions. I like TheBrain, but at the current rate of development and the user extensibility I see Obsidian surpassing TheBrain at some point.

I hate subscriptions, but I pay because I treat it as an upgrade for the next edition. (But external links aren't synced to TB cloud, per a tip that just popped up.) I've posted examples previously.ДЄs to a TB roadmap, lots of people have asked for some indication, but it's clear that just isn't going to happen, and that's TB team's perogative for whatever did do a kind of current / future look in a video eleven months ago. Markdown files made in Obsidian can be easily dragged and dropped (as links) into TB, and then can be edited from either application and show in the other one. Obsidian desktop and the mobile app are free you don't need to subscribe to the Obsidian sync service, using iCloud works fine, at least for iOS. Leave all the stuff you have in TB where it is. Why expend a lot of energy - use TB and Obsidian together, for the benefits of both.

What's holding me back is just the level of energy I have to put into getting my hands on this new tool and migrating all my information. if I read correctly subscribe by Spet 30th and even if you cancel you lock in the discount for life. Failing that I hope that I spark changes for others if I move on after a test period. My hope is a note like this might spur TheBrain developers to be more open about their plans and help me see there is more momentum than I see. The rate of development feels (to an outsider) to be faster than the TheBrain and their forum seems more active.ДЇWIW I'm not trying to sell anyone on moving, I'm telling the story of why I'm considering it. They even support using Git as a sync tool - conflicting merges are just so much fun They have a plugin model and a large supply of community plugins Their iOS client feels actively developed The sync service includes a year of version control for a couple of days more is still half price
